Vice-Chairperson of Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) Abulaiti met with former Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo at Chinese People’s Institute of Foreign Affairs (CPIFA) on May 8th, who was visiting China for the International Cooperative Conference on Green Economy and Climate Change at the invitation of China Center for International Economic Exchanges (CCIEE). Both sides exchanged views on both Sino-Nigeria and Sino-Africa relations, and international cooperation on climate change as well.        Abulaiti welcomed Obasanjo to visit China again, and honored his great efforts in enhancing Sino-Nigeria relations during his term serving as President. He said that the Chinese government highly values Sino-Africa relations, and helps Africa with sincerity and without any conditionality. Abulaiti also stressed the importance of further cooperation between China and African countries including Nigeria on more other fields, particularly on the field of combating climate change hand in hand. Besides, he elaborated on China’s position and great efforts to fight against climate change in recent years.

The “Group 77 plus China” model is a successful practice of South-South cooperation. Obasanjo appreciated China’s great efforts on tackling with climate change and its fruitful achievements in the past few years, which has set a good example for all other developing countries. He emphasized to enhance the cooperation between African countries and China on issues of climate change and green economy. The new cooperation will benefit not only Africa and China but also all human beings.

Abulaiti also expressed deep condolence on behalf of Chinese government and its people to Obasanjo on the pass-away of Ex-President Yar’Adua. Obasanjo responded that the incumbent President Jonathon had been attaching great importance to the Nigerian-China relations and a further development of bilateral relationship can be seen ahead.
