CPIFA and Konrad Adenauer Foundation Co-host a Seminar on Foreign Policy Priorities

On 13 July 2010, the Chinese People’s Institute of Foreign Affairs (CPIFA) and the Konrad Adenauer Foundation (KAS) co-hosted “Foreign Policy Priorities in the Age of Globalization: a German-Chinese Dialogue” in Beijing. Chinese officials and scholars from Environmental and Resources Protection Committee of the NPC, Development Research Center of the State Council, Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, China Arms Control and Disarmament Association, China Institute of Contemporary International Relations, China Institute of International Studies, Institute for Strategic Studies of the National Defence University and School of International Studies of Renmin University and members of the Bundestag and German scholars attended the seminar. The two sides exchanged views on Sino-German relations, China-EU relations, China’ s rise and its global impact, energy and resources security, nuclear disarmament and non-proliferation and anti-terrorism. Ambassador Yang Wenchang, President of CPIFA, Dr. Michael Schaefer, German Ambassador to China, and Mr. Frank Spengler, Deputy Director of the International Cooperation Department of KAS, delivered opening remarks. Ambassador Cai Jinbiao, Vice President of CPIFA, and Dr. Heinrich Kreft, Advisor of the CDU/CSU-Faction in the German Bundestag, moderated the seminar.
Participants from both sides agreed that China and Germanyenjoyed pragmatic and profound cooperation. The two countries have shared interests and similar positions on major international issues and have maintained close communication and cooperation. China and Germany should take a strategic and long term view of their bilateral ties and substantiate their strategic cooperation.
Participants agreed that the seminar held in a candid and warm atmosphere, provided a sound platform for the two sides to deepen understanding and strengthen mutual confidence. CPIFA and KAS will continue to facilitate such kind of dialogue between China and Germany on foreign policies.
