Former national security advisor to the US President Sandy Berger visited Chongqing and Beijing

       At the invitation of the Chinese People’s Institute of Foreign Affairs (CPIFA), Mr. Sandy Berger, former national security advisor to the US President, successively visited Chongqing and Beijing from September 4 to 10, 2010. During his stay in Beijing, Vice Premier Wang Qishan, Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi, Vice Minister Hao Ping of the Education Ministry, Commissioner Shao Mingli of the State Food and Drug Administration met with him respectively. Mr. Li Zhaoxing, the Honorary President of the CPIFA, hosted a dinner in Mr. Berger’s honor. During his stay in Chongqing, Party Secretary Bo Xilai of the Chongqing Municipality met with him. Both sides exchanged views on Sino-US relations, China’s social and economic development as well as China’s investment environment. Mr. Berger said it is very important for China to adhere unswervingly to the policy of reform and opening up, and to create a better soft and hard environment for the foreign investors. It’s helpful to stabilize and boost investors’ confidence. The majority of the foreign enterprises are confident in and patient with the potentiality and long-term development of the Chinese market. Mr. Berger also expressed his willingness to further promote US-China economic and trade cooperation and the healthy and stable development of Sino-US relations.
