Former French Prime Minister Juppé Visits China

At the invitation of the Chinese People’s Institute of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Alain Juppé, former French Prime Minister and Mayor of Bordeaux, visited China from 6 to 11 September 2010 at the head of Bordeaux municipal delegation.
Chairman Wu Bangguo of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress (NPC) met with Mr. Juppé in Beijing. Mr. Yang Jiechi, Minister of Foreign Affairs, and Mr. Zhou Shengxian, Minister of Environmental protection also met with Mr. Juppé and members of his delegation. The two sides exchanged views on Sino-French relations, science and technology cooperation, local cooperation and G20 summit.
The delegation visited Shanghai to attend the 2010 China International Friendship Cities Conference and was received by Chairman Jia Qinglin of the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference at a group meeting. Mr. Yu Zhengsheng, Secretary of the Shanghai Municipal Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC), Mr. Luo Qingquan, Secretary of CPC Hubei Provincial Committee, and Mr. Yue Yong, Vice-Mayor of Wuhan, met with the delegation separately.
Mr. Juppé also toured the Shanghai Expo and unveiled Bordeaux exhibition hall at the French Pavilion. The delegation visited projects on sustainable development and renewed relevant agreements on cooperation with Wuhan. Bordeaux and Wuhan are sister cities.
