U.S. Senator Baucus Heads Delegation to Visit China

At the invitation of the Chinese People's Institute of Foreign Affairs (CPIFA), a 6-member U.S. Delegation led by Senator Max Baucus, Chairman of the Senate Financial Committee of the US Congress, visited China from Oct.11 to 16, 2010. During the visit in Beijing, Vice President Xi Jinping, Vice Premier Wang QiShan, Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi, MOFCOM Minister Chen Deming, Vice Governor of the People's Bank Yi Gang met with the delegation respectively. The two sides exchanged views on Sino-U.S. relations, China's investment environment, RMB exchange rate, and the Intellectual Property Right protection. The delegation also visited Shanghai 2010 World Expo.
Baucus said the U.S.-Sino relationship is the most important bilateral relations in the world. At the moment both countries are under tremendous domestic pressure on such issues as currency exchange rates and trade imbalance. He expressed his hope that both countries understand each other’s demands and pressure in the spirit of mutual respect, and take actual action on resolve the current problems.
