The CPIFA Working Group Visits Australia and New Zealand

The CPIFA (Chinese People’s Institute of Foreign Affairs) Working Group led by Amb. Chen Yonglong, Vice President of the CPIFA,visited Sydney, Canberra, Perth, Auckland and Willington from May 24th to June 2nd , 2011.
During the stay in Australia, the group called on Mr. Bob Hawke and Mr. Paul Keating,Australian Former Prime Ministers, Mr. Peter Rowe, First Assistant Secretary of North Asia Division of Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, Amb. Louise Hand with Australian Department of Climate Change and Energy Efficiency, had discussions with experts and scholars from the University of Sydney, the University of Technology Sydney, Australian Institute of International Affairs (New South Wales Branch and Australian Capital Territory Branch), Australian National University, Australian Strategic Policy Institute, Parliamentary Library of Australia, Australian Defense College, Australia-China Friendship Society (Western Australia Branch).
During the stay in New Zealand, the group met with Mr. John Mckinnon, New Zealand Secretary of Defense, Grant Bobertson, Member of New Zealand Parliament and Spokesperson for Health (Labor Party), Mr. Grahame Morton, Director of North Asia Division of New Zealand Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade, Ms. Jo Tyndall, New Zealand Ambassador for Climate Change, Mr. Warwick Hawker, Director of Auckland office of New Zealand Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade, had discussion with scholars and experts from New Zealand-Asia Foundation, New Zealand Center for Strategic Studies, New Zealand Center of Contemporary China Studies, University of Auckland, Victoria University of Wellington.
The group exchanged views with the above on Sino-Australia and Sino-New Zealand relations, Aisa-Pacific situation and China’s peaceful development etc. The visit is conducive to further promoting CPIFA’s work on the people-to-people exchanges and public diplomacy between China and Australia, China and New Zealand.
