Xi Jinping Holds Talks with Kenyan President William Ruto

On the morning of April 24, 2025, President Xi Jinping held talks with Kenyan President William Ruto, who is on a state visit to China, at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing. The two heads of state?announced the decision to build a China-Kenya community with a shared future for the new era.

Xi Jinping noted that since the establishment of diplomatic relations 62 years ago, China and Kenya have consistently respected and supported each other, carried forward the spirit of China-Africa friendship and cooperation as well as the Silk Road spirit, and continuously advanced?their comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership to new heights.?Elevating China-Kenya relations to a China-Kenya community with a shared future for?the new era is a strategic choice for both sides. China is ready to work with Kenya to follow the trend of history and the times,?create an inspiring example in the?all-weather China-Africa community with a shared future for?the new era, and lead the development of China-Africa relations as well as unity and cooperation in the Global South.

Xi Jinping stressed that building a community with a shared future is the right path of mutual respect, equality, mutual benefit and win-win results, and "working together for the one and only planet Earth".?China and Kenya should continue to firmly support each other in safeguarding national sovereignty, security and development interests and in exploring development paths that suit their?respective?national conditions, deepen experience sharing in state governance, and be fellow passengers and good friends?on the road?to modernization.?Noting that jointly advancing?the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) is a shining hallmark of cooperation between the two countries, Xi Jinping said that the two sides should enhance regular policy communication, promote high-level connectivity, facilitate unimpeded?sustainable trade, explore diversified financial integration, carry forward the everlasting friendship,?nourish people-to-people amity, and?lead the high-quality Belt and Road cooperation.?China's supersized?market has always kept its door open to high-quality products from Kenya. China encourages more capable Chinese enterprises to invest and do business in Kenya.?As important members of the Global South, China and Kenya should take concrete actions to firmly safeguard the international system with the United Nations at its core, promote global governance that is based on extensive consultation, joint contribution and shared benefit, practice true multilateralism, advance?the building of an equal and orderly multipolar world and universally?beneficial and inclusive economic globalization, and bring about a bright future of peace, security, prosperity and progress for the world.

Xi Jinping noted that no matter how the international landscape may evolve,?China's principle of sincerity, real results, amity and good faith toward Africa?will not change. The original aspiration of China and Africa supporting each other?in trying times will not change. The fundamental purpose of China-Africa win-win cooperation and common development will not change. China is a country that delivers on its promises.?China is ready to work with African countries including Kenya to achieve?more early harvests of the outcomes of the Beijing Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation?(FOCAC) for the greater?benefit?of?the African people,?continue to send a powerful message of?the?China-Africa strength through unity as well as?solidarity?and cooperation, and?spearhead the Global?South cooperation through the?high-quality China-Africa cooperation.

Xi Jinping stressed that tariff and trade wars have no winners. China is not a troublemaker, but will not flinch when trouble comes its way. China will stand with countries worldwide in solidarity and cooperation to tackle various challenges, protect legitimate rights and interests, uphold international trade rules, and defend international fairness and justice.

William Ruto?said that Kenya and China have always adhered to treating each other sincerely and achieving mutual benefits?and win-win results. The two countries share a common vision for cooperation and always put people at the center. The two countries?are all-weather strategic cooperative partners.?Kenya firmly pursues?the one-China policy and insists that Taiwan is an inalienable part of China's territory.?Kenya expressed?its gratitude to the Chinese government and people for their selfless assistance to?Kenya's efforts in improving infrastructure and responding to natural disasters. The BRI?projects such as the Mombasa-Nairobi Railway have effectively promoted Kenya's national development.?Kenya is willing to join hands with China to build a community with a shared future, comprehensively synergize?economic and social development strategies, strengthen cooperation in trade, investment, infrastructure construction, science and technology and other fields, enhance exchanges in education, culture and tourism, advance their respective modernization processes, and bring the future of the two countries more closely connected.?China-Africa cooperation is conducive to Africa's peace?and?development. Kenya is willing to closely coordinate and cooperate with China to deliver on the outcomes of the FOCAC?Beijing Summit.?Trade wars?undermine the existing international rules and order. Kenya appreciates China's role as a stabilizer in the current volatile situation and China's efforts to safeguard the legitimate rights and interests of the Global South?countries. Kenya is willing to jointly uphold and practice multilateralism with China.

After the talks, the two heads of state witnessed the?signing of 20 cooperation documents in such?fields as?the BRI, new and high technology, people-to-people and cultural exchanges, economy and trade, as well as news and media.

The two sides issued the Joint Statement Between the People's Republic of China and the Republic of Kenya on Creating an Inspiring Example in the All-Weather China-Africa Community with a Shared Future for the New Era.

Before the talks, Xi Jinping and his wife Peng Liyuan held a welcome?ceremony for William Ruto?and his wife Rachel Ruto?at the square outside the east gate of the Great Hall of the People.

Upon William Ruto's arrival, honor guards lined up in salutation.?As Xi Jinping and William Ruto stepped onto the stand, the military band played the national anthems of China and Kenya and a 21-gun salute was fired at Tian'anmen Square. Accompanied by Xi Jinping, William Ruto reviewed the guard of honor of the People's Liberation Army and watched the march-past.

At noon on the same day,?Xi Jinping and Peng Liyuan held a welcome banquet for William Ruto and his wife at the Golden Hall of the Great?Hall of the People.
