CPIFA President Wang Chao attends the 17th China-Singapore Forum

On June 9, the 17th China-Singapore Forum, co-hosted by the Chinese People’s Institute of Foreign Affairs (CPIFA) and the East Asian Institute (EAI) of the National University of Singapore, was successfully held in Singapore. CPIFA President and Co-chair of the forum Mr. Wang Chao, former Chinese Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs Amb. Hu Zhengyue, CPIFA Vice President Amb. Zhou Pingjian, together with Singapore’s Ambassador-at-large of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Co-chair of the forum Amb. Chan Heng Chee, EAI Chairman Dr. Teh Kok Peng, and other representatives attended this forum. Minister Grace Fu Hai Yien, Singapore’s Minister for Sustainability and the Environment and Minister-in-charge of Trade Relations, had a discussion with the representatives from both sides. Chinese Ambassador to Singapore Cao Zhongming conducted a work exchange with the Chinese delegation.
Wang Chao said in his opening remarks that China and Singapore are friendly neighbors and important partners. Under the careful cultivation of leaders from both countries, China-Singapore relations have achieved comprehensive development and made significant strides forward, setting a model of mutual benefit and common development between two countries. President Xi Jinping and the Singaporean leader jointly announced the new positioning of the all-round, high-quality and future-oriented partnership between China and Singapore, which has charted the course, drawn up the blueprint and opened up broad prospects for the development of bilateral relations. Taking the 35th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries as an opportunity, China stands ready to work with Singapore to firmly keep to the overarching direction of China-Singapore friendship, further deepen political mutual trust, expand mutually beneficial cooperation, strengthen people-to-people exchanges, continue to advance together on the path of modernization, and jointly write a new chapter of high-quality development.
The theme of this year’s forum is “China-Singapore Cooperation in a Complex and Unpredictable Environment: 35th Anniversary of the Establishment of China-Singapore Diplomatic Relations”. Chinese representatives from the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, Chinese Academy of International Trade and Economic Cooperation, China Association of Trade in Services, Peking University, Renmin University of China, China Foreign Affairs University, China Academy of Information and Communications Technology, Global Institute of China International Capital Corporation,China-Singapore Tianjin Eco-city and other insititutions conducted in-depth dialogue and exchanges with their Singaporean counterparts. The topics include current China-Singapore relations and the international environment, opportunities for bilateral trade and investment cooperation, prospects for cooperation in innovation, digital economy and green economy, and China-ASEAN cooperation to jointly promote peace and prosperity in the Asia-Pacific.
